The Glass and Steele Book Series Review

I just finished the last book in the series, The Goldsmith’s Conspiracy, and I felt it was the right time put my thoughts on this 13-book series into words. Before I continue, I would like to inform you that this post is not sponsored. My love for these books is the sole reason for this glowing review.

I’ll start with the first book, The Watchmaker’s Daughter. If you have read my previous post then you would know that stumbling upon this book series was purely a serendipitous event. I found the beautiful cover on Pinterest, read it on Google Play books and since then I have been an ardent follower of this series.

The Watchmaker’s Daughter is the base of the whole series. Events which occur in this book are often quoted in the rest of the series and it could be said that it acts as a novella. It tells us how everyone met without boring us one bit because the encounters between India, Matt and Matt’s gang are so hilarious and embedded in misunderstandings that you shouldn’t skip it one bit.

Every time I complete a book in this series, I want to just start re-reading the books from the starting to just once again live their experiences. And till now no book has disappointed me. Each book furthers the personal lives without compromising the mystery aspect. They often find dead ends as they are not always consulted on cases but in the end, things work out and emerge victorious.

This book series is a perfect recommendation for those who love Bridgerton, or mystery. In short, lovers of the romance, mystery, family, magic realism and historical fantasy/fiction (ofc 😅) genres are welcome to read these books.

Now, coming to the reason why you’ve probably stumbled upon this blog post. Is this 13-book series really worth all the time that’s spent into reading it? And it’s a worthwhile question. No one would like have their time wasted on a series that’s so long but has nothing in it.

The reason why I love this series is that Matt and India just do not immediately get together. The bond that they share is very realistic and it takes time to show. From the first to the seventh book, certain events take place which rattle them, make them aware of this bond and finally force each of them to accept it. From the very first encounter, and I mean it, you’ll be hooked. And this coming from a person who does not prefer just romance in the plot. Like there should be a mystery or something, which just takes the limelight away from very cringey moments….

In each book, they solve a new mystery which is of magical nature. And both India and Matt have their enemies. So, be assured that they are going to be many near death experiences and each brings them closer.

Another thing which I am personally fed up of as a book nerd, is the fact that authors relish our misery. Most famous books kill our favourite character like Sirius Black (THE ASSASSIN LIBRARIAN!! Do not rub salt on our wounds!). I’m pretty tired of it too. But this series, thank god, is a warm hug and this warmth is never stripped away from us. You just need to hold on and you’ll see happiness in no time.

Another thing which I’ve recently added to the list of reasons why I love this book, is that everything and I mean everything, that was put in motion is ended with a clear reason. There are no plot holes (or at least I couldn’t find them), and every problem that Archer had created is defeated to pave way for a satisfying ending.

Many people would I guess, find the series wordy. Some of you might feel that too much explaining has been done especially when you’re reading the series in chronological order. It’s best described as the ‘Previously, on The Mentalist….’, basically, the recap part. At first, I was a little bit (very teensy-tiny bit) irritated but it does not happen very often. So, you can live with it.

All in all, I don’t know why people on Goodreads do not like this series but I promise you I’ve been spent sleepless nights overthinking alternate scenarios because I love the couple so much.

A Request

I’m going to take advantage of my blog to rouse the attention of all the writers and artists out there to take some time out to make fabulous fan art and write beautiful fan fiction on this series. As you can see from this post, I love this series very much and I don’t have much talent in writing, so, I would like to pass on the responsibility to my fellow creators. There is no fanfic and only one fanart (which I think is not precise) precisely because this is not a very well - known series. If you ever write a fanfic or create a fan art please don’t hesitate to notify me by either commenting on this post or sending a DM on my Instagram (@the_assassin_librarian). Thank You.

Happy Overthinking!!!
